The weather is finally heating up and soon you could have to turn over to your air conditioner. Along with arranging your annual air conditioner service with the experts at LTS Plumbing & Heating Inc., there are a number of other tasks you can do to remain comfy and save money throughout the year.
During the in-between season in Paxinos, those far too few spring temps, you may use ceiling fans to keep cozy. Did you know that using your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner could not only keep you more cozy during the warmer days, but also save you on energy costs? In order to do that you have to ensure you’re taking advantage of ceiling fans and your air conditioning properly. Here’s a couple things to note:
Raise Your Thermostat
This is where the cost savings can have the chance to come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving on your bills. Raising your thermostat by a couple degrees, in addition to using your ceiling fan, shouldn’t impact your comfort level too much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re lowering the length of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner.
Adjust Air Direction
Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to switch depending on the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to ensure the air is blowing down. You can stand beneath the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, adjust the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually decrease the air temperature, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than the temperature shown on the thermostat.
Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There
Treat your ceiling fan like you would lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to benefit from the wind chill that a fan offers you’re wasting energy by operating your fan. Don’t forget, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
